This is a remake of my first ever character. I think I'm a lot more skilled now then I once was and have made this with more detail. Assuming this is accepted my last App for him should be deleted or moved to achieve. His history also includes information about RPing I've already done with him

Personality: Tenebris is very intelligent and calculating, very self-critical, perfectionist, introvert, and sometimes short-tempered. But also very kind and protective of those he cares for. Despite his dark past and powers, he was determined to try his best live a life free of the metaphorical darkness that he had has become so accustomed to.

History: Few ponies remembered the tale of when the dark avarice of Nightmare Moon first threatened to weave the entire land into perpetual darkness, and was then defeated and sealed in the moon by her elder sister, Princess Celestia. But from these legends a dark cult was formed. Their secret, hidden, nameless order would wait generations if necessary before there beloved queen returned, and help her to bathe all of Equestria in beautiful night. Though they had no name they where organized and secret. Their headquarters was in a deep cavern hidden under the mountains surrounded by the Everfree forest.
Tenebris was born into the upper hierarchy of this cult. He possessed a birth defect that made his eyes drastically photosensitive. Many members of the cult saw this as a sign that he was destined to lead the uprising directly under their queen, as though he was some kind of messiah. To further instill this notion of night superiority in him, the leaders secretly placed a curse on him that not even he’d know about. It stopped him being physically capable of casting any magic other then umbramancy. This meant all his concentration and learning had to be focused on this single form of magic, hopefully making him not only completely loyal to the night (as this magic depended on darkness), but without equal in shadow magic.
Most of his life was sent training and learning the dark worship of their queen in the hope that they would help her usher in a new ruling age. He was a dark and hateful individual, always taught to hate Celestia and all her supporters, always shown that darkness was the only true way, and always waiting for the day all his training would pay off. This lead him to become a powerful umbramancer and talented leader, he was however disconnected and had so much trouble understanding other’s on an emotional level. Long hours of study also lead him to be a very analytical unicorn, capable of great feats of learning and understanding. He has however always had a very frail and weak body.
He discovered his cutie mark at a relatively early age. When he was a colt, a pack of diamond dogs had been tunneling near the cult’s underground headquarters. Before any kind of understanding could be made, a physical conflict broke out between the two sides. Most of the ponies in that section of the catacombs were over powered or fled. Tenebris however was separated from the rest of them and surrounded by the furious canines. All his fear and training conglomerated into one massive spell, the first of its kind, that he later named Black Singularity. This spell worked like a singularity to darkness and pulled all darkness for kilometers into the immediate area. This included Shadow Spirits, which were erratic elements of darkness, most of which where very aggressive or at the very least frightening. They treated Tenebris no differently then any of the dogs. The young unicorn however managed to escape just in time as the spirits seemed more interested in the screaming dogs then the small pony. This gave him his cutie mark, an image of the singularity itself. Since then he’s been trying to find ways of casting this powerful but dangerous spell without putting himself in harms way.
Many years later, after Nightmare Moon was defeated by the Elements of Harmony, great turmoil overtook the entire cult. Most wanted to find a way to return Luna to their beloved queen. Others realized the evil of what they had hoped to achieve, they decided that their ideals before now had been wrong and wanted to make amends. At first it was discussions between these two groups, which turned into arguments, which turned into fights, which after about a week turned into outright battle.
This was a dark, but at the same time illuminating time for Tenebris. This life was all he knew. It was all he’d ever cared about. But now the time had came to a choice. This battle was between those that wanted a better world then eternal darkness, and those who stood by the ideals they’d had their whole lives. Tenebris’ entire family was on the latter side, and expected him to be as well… however… their "Messiah" betrayed them. He fought along side the idealists. His own poniality (humanity) winning in the end.
Both sides where decimated. But in the end the idealists won just barley thanks to Tenebris. It was a difficult fight against his sister Veneficium though. She was said to be destined to lead them before he was born and took the title from her. In the end she was forced to flee, but not before giving Tenenbris three scares across his chest. He then fled to Ponyvile to try and start a new life.
After a short while he eventually found companionship with a young peguses named Serenity, and somehow managed to join her group of friends. Including the powerful unicorn master named Ozymandius who saw great potential in Tenebris and continued his training as his mentor, teaching him more pure outlets for magic. One of the most significant things Ozymandius has taught him was a mental practice to use for casting spells. It was meant to allow him to use emotions to help empower spells, and effectively make casting magic easier and far less energy consuming. Thanks to this training. Tenebris can cast longer and more powerfully then most unicorns without this special training.
(This will be updated every so often to give new information as Tenebris’ timeline unfolds. At the moment he’s on a quest with Ozzie to break his curse.)
About Umbramancy
Umbramancy is the magic of shadows and darkness, but it is not to be mistaken for black magic. It is the manipulation of elemental darkness. All shadows and absences of light are tools for an Umbramancer, just as fire is the tool of a Pyromancer. The more dark a location is, the more powerful Umbramancy spells become. The brighter it is, the weaker they are, and if the spell is in direct contact with very bright light then it may not even work at all. Needless to say, Tenebris will be most powerful during the night, or where the sunlight can not reach. He will be even stronger if there is no moon or stars. A significant part of umbramancy is the Shadow Realm. It is another dimension filled with nothing but complete and endless darkness, though it is also the home of shadow spirits and similar creatures.

Novice spells
Shadow Constructs (Varies)
This is the most simple, yet versatile of all shadow spells. It allows the user to manipulate darkness and shadow into solid oily shapes that can be controlled much like telekinesis. The size and effectiveness of these constructs is dependent on the skill of the Umbramancer. As such this spell becomes more powerful as they do. It can be used to create tools, weapons, shields, walls, and anything the user can shape it into. As long as they have the power. However, there is one fatal weakness to this spell; light devolves the constructs, causing them to melt and revert back to their natural state, though the Umbramancer can concentrate to try and maintain the shapes, the brighter the light, the harder this is to do.
Shadow Bolt (Offensive)
This simple spell fires a burst of dark energy from the horn, damaging and often repulsing the target away.
(Essentially the same as Twilight’s offensive spell we see in Canterlot Wedding, except black.)
Intermediate spells
Shadow Walking (Teleportation)
Shadow walking allows the caster to transform a shadow into a portal that enters the Shadow Realm. This spell can be used to transverse the Shadow Realm and quickly emerge out of another shadow in the real world, possibly kilometers away, depending on the casters choosing. It can be very dangerous for someone else to enter the portal however, as the Shadow realm is nothing but complete and endless thick blackness, no light, not even air. Only an experienced Umbramancer knows where to go can escape. A pony without a guide may enter and be lost forever.
(Ponies with a talent for perception or detection may be able to travel safely through as well)
Shadow Possession (Control)
Shadow Possession allows the user to extend their shadow on any surface as far as their shadow’s mass can reach. Once it comes into contact with a target's shadow, the two merge and the target is forced to imitate the user's movements. If the target is out of range, the user can rely on pre-existing shadows for their shadow to freely travel through. It's also possible to split one's shadow, either to trap more opponents at once, or to create a distraction, though this takes more concentration and energy.
Black Ravens (Manipulation)
An advanced form of Shadow Constructs. This spell allows the user to shape darkness into oily, black ravens that can fly in large swarms. This is most useful when combined with One with Darkness, to let the user transform into the ravens themselves.
(This is a raven variation of the bat spell used by Luna during Nightmare Night)
Nightmare Walking (Perception and Manipulation)
Using this spell, an Umbramancer’s mind can enter the nightmares of another pony and manipulate them while they sleep.
Dark Sight (Perception)
With this spell the user can see perfectly in darkness, not even the slightest hint of light is needed.
Darkness Creation (Summoning)
This spell lets the caster open a very small rift into the Shadow realm around their horn. This means that if no shadows or darkness is available for manipulation, shadows can be extracted from this realm for use instead.

Advanced Shadow Bolt (Offensive)
Simply an advanced version of Shadow Bolt.
Shadow Weaving (Item creation)
This is a complex spell that takes a lot of time to complete. It revolves around the forming of thick and condensed darkness compacted onto many layers of magic, essentially creating a thick substance that can be manipulated just like any other shadow. But is far more sturdy and resistant to light. A weaved shadow becomes an item that can be manipulated and used by an Umbramancer, often for clothing or armor. Even if the caster looses consciousness the weaved shadow will not return to its natural state.
Tenebris often weaves his cloaks out of shadows, meaning it can be manipulated and changed just like any other form of darkness, but will not devolve from light as quickly.
(This spell was also used by Luna on Nightmare Night, she was wearing a shadow waved cloak that she turned into bats)
Wings of the Raven (Artificial wing creation)
Wings of the Raven is an advanced form of shadow manipulation. Due to the nature of the shadows needed, this can only be done with weaved shadows. Essentially the user attached the weaved shadows to their shoulders to create a pair of black wings. While this spell is in use the user has the basic capabilities of a peguses, but only the basic capabilities.
(Similar to the spell Twilight used to give Rarity butterfly wings)
Shadow Spirit Summoning (Summoning)
This is a dangerous and unpredictable spell. The caster opens a rift between the Shadow Realm and Equestria, and attempts to call forth a spirit from it. The spirit’s power depends on how much magic was used. Often these spirits are powerful and useful. However, what spirit is summoned is never certain, and what the spirit wants is not always certain. Some may very well desire to help the Umbramancer, feeling a kind of honor in helping their summoner. Others may be malicious and enter a blind rage of destruction. There is even a small chance that they may loath having been taken from their home and actively try to attack or thwart the Summoner.
One with Darkness (Transformation)
This spell allows the Umbramancer to fuse their body with the shadows themselves. With this they can manipulate their own body like the darkness, turning it into shadow constructs under their control. This can be dangerous when attempted with anything other then weaved shadows however. Because their bodies can then be dissolved by light just like any other darkness.
Soothing Darkness (Healing)
This is one of the very few healing spells in Umbramancy. Its an advanced technique for One with Darkness that allows shadows to transform into lost or damaged tissue. Essentially healing a wound while it is within darkness. Lost limbs can also be regrown using this method, but it takes a lot more time and magical energy.
Master Spells
Black Singularity (Summoning)
This is the spell that gained Tenebris his Cutie mark. It is a powerful, destructive, and risky spell. Essentially, the caster creates a singularity of darkness, that draws shadows and darkness towards the area of the spell. It lasts for up to several hours and baths a square mile radius in thick visually impenetrable darkness. However, due to the incredible pulling power of the spell, it also attracts shadow spirits, darkness elemental, and anything else that is shadow based. This functions like a Mass Shadow spirit summon, bringing forth dozens of spirits with the same rules applying to them as it does with Shadow Spirit Summoning.
(This is the spell that gave Tenebris his Cutie Mark. At this point it has only been used twice.)
Master Shadow Bolt (Offensive)
A highly destructive and powerful form of Shadow Bolt that can potentially obliterate entire tanks in a single blast. It is however very energy consuming.
Shadow Snakes (Summoning)
A specialized form of summoning. This brings forth snakelike snake shadow spirits from within the users own body, usually the spine. The snakes become extensions of the user’s will, directly under their control. Unlike most other spirits they are symbiotes made by a fusion of flesh and darkness. They can be used for a variety of uses and and have a terrifying visage.
Shroud of Dark Nightmare (Illusion)
An advanced form of Nightmare Walking. This spell lets the caster shroud a target in a nightmare while they are still awake. It requires direct eye contact from victim to caster to be performed. When executed, the spell traps the target’s mind in a dark illusionary world of nightmares that is completely under the caster's control. The spell also alters victims perception of time, making what is really only seconds in the real world seem like days or even weeks in the nightmare world. However, this takes considerable concentration and magical energy, potentially tiring the caster and leaving them vulnerable. It can also only be used on a single target at one time.
Shadow Spirit Binding (Manipulation)
This spell binds a shadow spirit to the caster’s will, bringing them under control and turning them into their loyal servant for as long as the spell lasts or until they return to the Shadow realm.
Armor of The Black Alicorn (Item creation)
By using an advanced form of Shadow Weaving and Wings of the Raven, a master umbramancer can forge a suit of armor and shadow that becomes a powerful and ominous exoskeleton. This suit not only has the advantages of Wings of the Raven, but increases the user’s strength and makes them appear significantly larger, both in height and horn length, giving them the appearance of a dark alicorn. The armor itself is not quite as malleable as most other forms of darkness, and tends to retain its shape better. It does however give the user a huge tail and sometimes mane made of weaved shadow, as well as the wings. The suit does not take any damage from light at all. Though it can be damaged by conventional means. However, this exoskeleton automatically repairs itself while within darkness.
The exact appearance of the suit depends on how the umbramancer forges it, though typically it has glowing eyes, and an all over look reminiscent of Nightmare Moon.

It revolves around the forming of thick and condensed darkness compacted onto many layers of magic, essentially creating a thick substance that can be manipulated just like any other shadow. But is far more sturdy and resistant to light. A weaved shadow becomes an item that can be manipulated and used by an Umbramancer, often for clothing or armor. Even if the caster looses consciousness the weaved shadow will not return to its natural state.
Tenebris often weaves his cloaks out of shadows, meaning it can be manipulated and changed just like any other form of darkness, but will not devolve from light as quickly.
(This spell was also used by Luna on Nightmare Night, she was wearing a shadow waved cloak that she turned into bats)
Wings of the Raven (Artificial wing creation)
Wings of the Raven is an advanced form of shadow manipulation. Due to the nature of the shadows needed, this can only be done with weaved shadows. Essentially the user attached the weaved shadows to their shoulders to create a pair of black wings. While this spell is in use the user has the basic capabilities of a peguses, but only the basic capabilities.

Shadow Spirit Summoning (Summoning)
This is a dangerous and unpredictable spell. The caster opens a rift between the Shadow Realm and Equestria, and attempts to call forth a spirit from it. The spirit’s power depends on how much magic was used. Often these spirits are powerful and useful. However, what spirit is summoned is never certain, and what the spirit wants is not always certain. Some may very well desire to help the Umbramancer, feeling a kind of honor in helping their summoner. Others may be malicious and enter a blind rage of destruction. There is even a small chance that they may loath having been taken from their home and actively try to attack or thwart the Summoner.
One with Darkness (Transformation)
This spell allows the Umbramancer to fuse their body with the shadows themselves. With this they can manipulate their own body like the darkness, turning it into shadow constructs under their control. This can be dangerous when attempted with anything other then weaved shadows however. Because their bodies can then be dissolved by light just like any other darkness.
Soothing Darkness (Healing)
This is one of the very few healing spells in Umbramancy. Its an advanced technique for One with Darkness that allows shadows to transform into lost or damaged tissue. Essentially healing a wound while it is within darkness. Lost limbs can also be regrown using this method, but it takes a lot more time and magical energy.
Master Spells
Black Singularity (Summoning)
This is the spell that gained Tenebris his Cutie mark. It is a powerful, destructive, and risky spell. Essentially, the caster creates a singularity of darkness, that draws shadows and darkness towards the area of the spell. It lasts for up to several hours and baths a square mile radius in thick visually impenetrable darkness. However, due to the incredible pulling power of the spell, it also attracts shadow spirits, darkness elemental, and anything else that is shadow based. This functions like a Mass Shadow spirit summon, bringing forth dozens of spirits with the same rules applying to them as it does with Shadow Spirit Summoning.
(This is the spell that gave Tenebris his Cutie Mark. At this point it has only been used twice.)
Master Shadow Bolt (Offensive)
A highly destructive and powerful form of Shadow Bolt that can potentially obliterate entire tanks in a single blast. It is however very energy consuming.
Shadow Snakes (Summoning)
A specialized form of summoning. This brings forth snakelike snake shadow spirits from within the users own body, usually the spine. The snakes become extensions of the user’s will, directly under their control. Unlike most other spirits they are symbiotes made by a fusion of flesh and darkness. They can be used for a variety of uses and and have a terrifying visage.
Shroud of Dark Nightmare (Illusion)
An advanced form of Nightmare Walking. This spell lets the caster shroud a target in a nightmare while they are still awake. It requires direct eye contact from victim to caster to be performed. When executed, the spell traps the target’s mind in a dark illusionary world of nightmares that is completely under the caster's control. The spell also alters victims perception of time, making what is really only seconds in the real world seem like days or even weeks in the nightmare world. However, this takes considerable concentration and magical energy, potentially tiring the caster and leaving them vulnerable. It can also only be used on a single target at one time.
Shadow Spirit Binding (Manipulation)
This spell binds a shadow spirit to the caster’s will, bringing them under control and turning them into their loyal servant for as long as the spell lasts or until they return to the Shadow realm.
Armor of The Black Alicorn (Item creation)
By using an advanced form of Shadow Weaving and Wings of the Raven, a master umbramancer can forge a suit of armor and shadow that becomes a powerful and ominous exoskeleton. This suit not only has the advantages of Wings of the Raven, but increases the user’s strength and makes them appear significantly larger, both in height and horn length, giving them the appearance of a dark alicorn. The armor itself is not quite as malleable as most other forms of darkness, and tends to retain its shape better. It does however give the user a huge tail and sometimes mane made of weaved shadow, as well as the wings. The suit does not take any damage from light at all. Though it can be damaged by conventional means. However, this exoskeleton automatically repairs itself while within darkness.
The exact appearance of the suit depends on how the umbramancer forges it, though typically it has glowing eyes, and an all over look reminiscent of Nightmare Moon.
