For hours now Baldoire had been worried beyond measure and dropped everything resembling an act, mimic, and even his usual nasal voice. He hadn't even followed Lunar Knight as she dove right into the lion's den that was what should have been the most secure place in town for her.
Something happened. He was racking his brain trying to figure it out. It wasn't the spineless pegasi praying for salvation as they were getting flung around by dark energy tentacles. Neither was it the unicorn thief leader showing a clear pair of heels, more than likely considering reconvesion. No, no, there was something to think, something to do, he just knew it. A hunch. An oddly primal call.
And then it all clicked. In a certain way. A mysterious call had invaded his mind. He felt light as his hooves seemingly carried themselves to where the coins had fallen down. Silently picking them up, he put them in a Pocket and entered the house. Sure enough, the abomination was standing in the middle of the room. It was constituted of a rusty looking chestplate, a factory new rest of pieces of armour, and gigantic tentacles sprouting from every pore of it. Knight had just nearly dodged one of its strikes. The next one would assuredly be a harbringer of great pain, considering how awkwardly the pegasi duo had fled the scene. But there would be no next one directed at the exhausted mare, since as soon as Baldoire stepped in, the thing shifted its every mail towards him. Or, to be more specific, it was staring at the little gold pellets. They were out of the Earth pony's Pocket now. Little did the thieves know, they weren't devalued, for they never had a market value in the first place. And now they were floating. Towards the being.
It made no sound, but its tentacles became more and more agitated until they turned wild, all lashing out at the thirty unstoppable levitating artifacts. To no avail, as those that weren't disintegrated instanly by an invisible barrier were sent flying back at their sender. Soon the coins were surrounding the the possessed armour set and began spinning around it as it looked for an opening, a way out. The frenzy turned into a dance, which turned into a glowing tornado encercling the aberration. Baldoire, an empty look on his face, leaped clumsily into the vortex and in a flash of light, everything was over.
It was a miracle nopony in the neighbourhood had awoken from their slumber. Obviously this day had been tiring for everyone. Baldoire was laying on his belly, now wearing the ancient chestplate on top of its clothes. And he felt great. He had just lost thirty precious antiques, granted. But he had won a golden moment of heroism. He didn't remember every single bit of it, but he didn't care, for he was convinced that he had just done a greater deed : singlehandedly defeating a daemon. Or whatever that was about. "You alright ?" He asked Lunar Knight as he unsuccessfully tried to pick himself up. His voice still wasn't as obnoxiously beaming as usual either, and his vocabulary not so needlessly refined. "I ... Might need a hoof. Also, what are we doing about this ?" He was pointing at the gaping hole in the roof, but he could have asked as much about the hopefully sealed away haunted armour he was wearing. For now, though, there was a much, much more impactful incident to discuss on our part.
The phenomenon was a once in a blue moon occurrence, getting oddly more and more common these days. But surely enough, Baldoire was looking directly at his interlocutors and smiling one of those true smiles everypony else smiled instinctively.
