His dream of serving Luna are accomplished, now being one of her favorite agents and personal friend, and he happily goes about his job as a Counter-Intelligence Officer, gleefully plucking away the minor evils that lurk in Equestria's corners through his prowess and skill in Anti-Magic. To top it all off, he lives in the palace with the other elites. Short of becoming Prince, he cannot achieve much more. His 'stories' now are usually of his involvement in those of others, acting as a mentor or an experienced war veteran (sort of war, espionage and the rebellions count for something).

Pio Neero is an Earth Pony, specifically a Halflinger, living officially in the Everfree Forest, but makes very frequent visits to Equestria. Notably, his cutie mark is a Question Mark, as is the symbol on his saddlebag, representing his sneakiness, deception, and secrecy he's kept throughout his life. He is often caught sneaking around the borders of Ponyville and has an unusually wide knowledge of many different things that many other ponies seem to not know. Also, no one knows why he wears that mono-speaker headphone and what he's listening to. Don't try to ask him about it, he'll just shrug you off.
His saddlebag, true to his mark, bears a strange arrangement of many things which he refuses to comment on other than saying that they are 'advanced trinkets from faroff lands'. These 'trinkets' are often for sale, if you can afford them. So far he has been seen using spyglasses, bombs, and even a computer. He always seems to have just the right little surprise for everything. Pertaining to his Question Mark, he has the habit of disappearing when just out of sight. For his claim to be from 'far away lands', he speaks with a very local but heavy South-New Jersey accent (in other words, he contracts a lot, talks fast, and is almost hard to understand if not from the area, almost as if he's shivering while speaking).
Little is known about him in Ponyville and no one has really looked into him. He has a calm composure similiar to the Royal Guards seen nearby Princess Celestia, though he will typically avoid the subject if it is brought up. He is also seen to be active at night.
All in all, he's a calm-hearted, thinker-type, melancholy-temperament. He is always present at Ponyville town events such as Spring Day and even Fashion shows, though it's never truly known why he is there. Even his 'friends' don't know why he would get interested in such things. He is resentful of the excessive use of magic in Equestria.
Secretly, he works for Princess Luna, as his family had before him. 1000 years ago, the Neero family aided Nightmare Moon and likewise failed when she rebelled. Once she was sealed away, the family of Earth Ponies was banished to the Everfree Forest as punishment, where they still through the generations remained loyal to Princess Luna.
As Princess Luna is now back by Celestia's side, Pio quietly, and secretly, re-integrated into society, though he still lives in Everfree. He viewed this loyalty as a family tradition, not that he totally agreed with it, but, in his mind, it had to be done. He helps around Ponyville to make up for his transgressions, though not openly, and encourages all those that were loyal to Nightmare Moon to do the same.

1.) March 3, 2011 As of 'One Wrong Turn Deserves Another', Pio has recovered very minute traces of the armor left behind by Nightmare Moon. He has only found four or five slivers of metal between the cracks of the floor and is confident that many are still left, but decides to let the remainder fade and scatter. Using the Eclipsa family’s knowledge of magic-technology, he has integrated the slivers into his stealth pack, giving him a small amount of power, but only when he is in, or is deriving from stores of, direct moonlight. It will have to do, nopony can risk too much of Nightmare Moon’s power in one place. He also took a small music box from the palace he believes belongs to one of the Princesses with the intention of returning it should he ever get an oppurtunity.
2.) March 9, 2011 As of ‘Pio Neero- Lingering Darkness’, Pio and his friends used the residual magic of the remnants of the Elements of Harmony to seal away his uncle, Lunar Charger, who had gathered more slivers of armor in an attempt to start a new Lunar Rebellion. Sealed within the Altar of Harmony, Charger is imprisoned for ten years. Not enough magic was left to trap him for any longer. Charger’s shards were destroyed, but still a few slivers exist hidden in the ruins.
2.5) May, 2011 Pio was promoted to 'Captain' in rank sometime between 2 and 3
3.) June 17, 2011 As of 'Moonlit Court'- Pio is now a personal advisor for Princess Luna. He returned the the music box found in 'One Wrong Turn'. He now also bears a small crescent moon under his left eye, which he wears his pride. Moved to Canterlot Royal Guard Branch.
4) January, 2012 Kiku is discovered to be an enemy spy under an unknown group and escapes out of Canterlot Palace with a single piece of undisclosed top secret information. Pio is emotionally shaken and becomes extremely paranoid for several months.
5) December, 2012 Pio's changing a little bit. He's beginning to punish criminals beyond what is called for, and while he acknowledges this and can keep his anger under control for now, if any major villain comes along that is defeated again, don't let him issue the sentence.
