Personality: Sh is overall a good pony, with her good qualities and her bad, her talents and her flaws. She is sweet and kind to the people she loves, including her fans and family, yet can be fiery and mean to the ponies that do the worse damage. Vinyl usually wouldn't be mean, but it happens to every pony. On the stage, known as DJ Pon-3, she is cool and awesome, but she is in reality very sweet. Cool, but nice. Her awesomeness isn't an act though. She is for real, very rad. And she's not the sort of mare to let some one else decide for her. She will make her own decisions, and won't let anyone else make them for her.
She is loyal to her family, friends and fans, and will never let them down. Seeing her family is one of the most important things to her, but it can't always happen. A letter is okay, but to her, it's not the same. Whenever she can she tries to see them, on trips to Canterlot or other occasions. But she is a very busy mare.
Vinyl isn't the best at organizing things, which is a big weakness in the music world. She tries her best to keep everything together, but it does get a big chaotic at times. When she isn't playing a show, she's probably talking to fans, practicing music or magic, or with her family. She tries to organize free time too, which isn't completely hard, but when she is organizing it, it can be.
She completely respects other ponies opinions, whether it be about her music or something else. Of course, there is a break point. When she is bored, she usually writes a letter to her family, or goes out and buys a milkshake. After a gig or a party, that's her favorite thing to do, no matter what city or town she's in.
Classical music is okay to her, as she likes all sorts of music, but it's not her favorite. It was the first to be discovered by her, as it it is very popular among ponies, but it just isn't her style. She likes the music that makes people want to jump up and dance, smiles on their faces.
Background: Vinyl was born in Canterlot, raised by not the most fancy ponies there, but also not the coolest. Growing up, she was taught to a formal lifestyle, learning manners and such, wearing fancy clothes and doing up her hair in complicated does. Her parents were afraid of getting rejected by their neighbors and friends because they didn't live exactly like most of the other ponies in Canterlot. But she wasn't. That was their worst fear.
A while after her seventh birthday, Vinyl decided to live differently. She tried to get her parents to do it with her, but they did not agree. Not a thing would be able to happen with them pestering her about the neighbors, their appearance to the city, and so on. The only time she could actually feel truly happy was when she put on her headphones, took off her fancy dresses, and undid her hair. Around then, she finally realized what she wanted to do. Be a musician, but not a normal one. She wanted to make or find a new kind of music.
Searching and searching, nothing she found was what she wanted. It was mostly all the same, orchestra music and folk like songs. She was looking for something faster, with a beat that made everypony want to dance. If she couldn't find it, she would make it. And so she started on her second journey. To find the right materials to make a new kind of music. Her parents got in the way, but in the end, they decided that it was her choice. They didn't like it particularly, but their little girl was going to be a star.
But she wasn't a little girl anymore. By the time she was 12, she finally found her music. She was walking home from school, when she heard music coming from inside a building. Inside was a stallion spinning a black disc on a flat silver thing. There were ponies all around, dancing with large smiles on their faces. It was amazing. And just what she needed. She may not have been able to make her own kind of music, but her first goal was complete. And now she knew what she needed to make the music.
After a long description of the machine, her father finally explained to her what it was. A turntable. They bought one, and she started practicing. After a few months, she was phenomenal. Then she only needed a place to play. A bit later, she had an idea. Why not go back to the place where she heard the music the first time?
So she did, her parents coming with her this time. When they were there, another party was going on. After a short talk with the stallion who was making the music, she got five minutes. Very nervous, it took her a second to start. But she did. Naturally, she did great, and at the end of her little performance, the crowd went wild. Afterwards, walking home, she looked behind herself, and she had her cutie mark.
After that, she spent her days and nights creating music, playing shows, and interacting with fans. Her family still matter to her, and she always has time for them. But in a big world, you can't always have everything you want. She doesn't have the largest fan base, and some people just don't appreciate her music. There could be more time for family too, but not everything always is exactly how you want it to be.
